SHETLANDLIVE GOES LIVE
Sharing Shetland with Shetlanders and visitors alike.
Shetlandlive.com - An Interactive Social networking platform designed with Shetlanders and visitors in mind.
Shetlandlive has been created by Inga Scott a local business woman from Lerwick who felt there was a niche in the market for a completely interactive community website packed with features aimed at Shetlanders, such as various news and weather feeds, join and start groups, forums, blogs, auctions, events, tourism, charities, local information directory and all free for folk to join.
With so many great Shetland websites and information scattered about the net I felt that they should all be brought together to create one large site - a Shetland information directory.
With social networking sites such as facebook, bebo, and myspace being the communication method of choice now, as it’s a free, convenient and effective way of keeping in contact with others, however many disagree with the ethics and size of such sites and may prefer a more localised network designed for a smaller community such as Shetland.
Due to Shetlands geographical area and vibrant community spirit I felt that we deserved a network community all of our own this means people can make new friends in Shetland and find local people with similar interests to hook up with. Shetland may be a small place but people who have a connection to Shetland through work, family and friends for instance is huge and global. Via shetlandlive these people can connect and share their unique bond with Shetland. As Shetlandlive is totally interactive members can contribute to the content of network making it a living and evolving site.
One of many facilities that members may find useful are the auctions as you can start prices low to high, high to low, make an offer, swap and buy out which creates many choices for the buyer and the seller alike. Plenty of room for pictures and descriptions to really make your listing stand out and increase the selling potential of your items. All individual auction items under £150 are FREE. There is a facility to open a ZE-shop for a small fee so all your items are for sale in one place, this can be useful selling unwanted/unused items or even for marketing your hobby or small business. Auctions also create an air of excitement especially if there are others bidding on the same item. As most of the items will be in Shetland – heavier items can be collected rather than posted. All local based charities are offered a ZE charity shop completely free, the shop can have up to 200 items, no commissions taken and all monies go direct to the charity via the account they set up. Plus start a charity group to let folk know more about your charity or cause.
As Tourism is a huge part of the Shetland economy there is also a Tourism part to Shetlandlive where tourism providers can advertise their property, tourism business or service. Your property doesn’t have to be star graded as we are not part of Visit Scotland, for quality assurance there is a feedback system similar to Ebay so customers leave comments for others to see and rate your property or business. Prices are from £30 + vat per month and you can cancel your subscription anytime. Visitors can navigate through the Shetland pictures and videos and find out useful information for their stay in Shetland plus post up their holiday diary, pictures and videos.
The Shetlandlive pub (Red Tin) has been created for Shetland socialites who can’t necessarily get out for one reason or another but can still meet others in the pub for a chat or a game of pool or go to the club to reminisce about nights in the past, post up pictures of their night out or celebration. The wonderful thing about the virtual pub is the virtual hangovers unless you are having a dram at home.
