Our Favourite Weather links

Shipping Forecast
You can't beat it for Weather prediction, but remember that Shetland is between 2 marine areas Viking and Fair Isle, Viking for the East side of Shetland and Fair Isle for the West. The Beeb very kindly out one at the start of the Shipping forecast and the other at the end.

Magic Seaweed
Ignore the dodgy name, Magic Seaweed's maps are probably the best for figuring out what's happening weatherwise.
In the winter the Wind Chart is invaluable. Watch out for those reds that's gales coming our way, the arrows are wind direction.
The Swell Chart is a useful one if your travelling by boat (or maybe not so useful if you've got to travel anyway), again watch out for those reds. For those of us who like an isobar there's always the Pressure Chart it also has Predicted Rainfall in blues marked, just watch the white - it's snow.

Weather Underground
Quite a handy site for world wide weather, it has real time readings and stats for pretty much any town you can think of. It gives lots of Shetland locations but if you look closely it's stats come from the 2 airports Sumburgh and Scatsa (Sella Ness). It also has useful stuff like moon phases, rise and set times, and of course those all important "stickers" (see our three widgets to the right)

Northern Isles Weather Forecast
No list of weather links for Shetland would be complete without Dave Wheeler's excellent site. He's been doing local weather online for years. He does the weather for The Shetland Times and although no weather forecaster gets it right 100% of the time, he's a lot more reliable than most.

Brae Automatic
If you live in the North or West of Shetland you may find this one handy. It gives you current readings as well as 24hr stats and last 7 days.
