SHETLAND LIVE

The Mongol Rally is a charity event where teams drive ridiculously small, ill suited cars from jolly London, England, to the far side of Outer Mongolia to it's capital city Ulaanbaatar. Crossing many countries, the rally stretches a third of the way around the planet.

Our Team from consists of

Andrew Hawick: Head of Foreign Correspondence & International Negotiations.

Stuart Cameron: Chief Mechanic and Public Relations
Kevin Williamson: Off Road and Desert Survival Specialist

These are the Rules we must follow:

The car cannot be any older than 10 years old and engine size a measly 1.2 or less.

One we hit the road there will be absolutely no support or back up.

Its a long grinding road with only just over half of the teams who set out ever reaching the finish line.

There is no set route, past teams have gone as far North as the Artic circle and some as far South as Afghanistan. One thing agreed no easy route to Ulaanbaatar.

We will have to cross many vast deserts and navigate over some extreme and precarious mountain ranges, not to mention river crossings and places unmapped by man.

For roughly 5000 miles of the rally we will have to drive straight through some of the worlds most renowned and feared bandit country's.

Remember this is all for a very good cause. Both the RNLI and sewer children of Mongolia need our support.
